Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz 2017
Creation of the Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz
The Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz has a fascinating history that began with 'The Futures Shiraz'. This wine was sold by Peter Lehmann to friends and family with the idea that they would pay now and delivery would be made in two years. This strategy was not only innovative but was also born out of financial necessity to secure the future of the winery. The 1980 Barossa Valley Futures Shiraz was exceptional when it was released and retains its quality to this day.
The impressive story behind Peter Lehmann Wines
Peter Lehmann's path was marked by courage and willingness to take risks. When he was instructed not to accept grapes due to overproduction, he founded Peter Lehmann Wines out of loyalty to the winegrowers and his own word. The first vintage was 1980, and the company has been officially known by this name since 1982. Peter Lehmann's deep understanding of the wine industry enabled the careful development of the winery, which developed from mass production to internationally recognized premium wines.
The Role of Vineyards and Grapes
Peter Lehmann Wines works with over 185 independent winegrowers and owns its own vineyards, although these only supply a small proportion of the grape requirements. Under the management of Doug Lehmann, Peter Lehmann's son, the winery has developed into one of the most respected in Australia, known for its excellent Australian Shiraz.
International recognition and expansion
Today, Peter Lehman Wines is part of the Hess Family Estates, a global organization that manages a broad portfolio of properties. This includes wineries in various parts of the world, such as Artezin in Napa Valley, Colomé in Argentina, Glen Carlou in South Africa, and many more. The Hess Collection, founded by Donald Hess, was the family's first winery and specializes in Pinot Noir.
